Whistleblower Directive passed by the European Council
The European Council passed the so-called EU Whistleblower Directive on 07.10.2019,. The European Parliament had already approved the Directive on 16 April 2019, after reaching a political accord on this with the Council in March 2019. The Directive then underwent a rectification procedure in the European Parliament, which in turn required approval on 16.09.2019. Member States must transpose the directive into national law by 17 December 2021 (for companies with 250 or more employees) or 17 December 2023 (for companies with 50 to 249 employees) at the latest. However, the expectation is for the German legislation to fully implement the Directive by the end of 2021.
